About

Sorb Engineers was founded in 1964 by brothers Bob and Bert Simpson. Initially based in High Wycombe, the company moved to its present site in Marlow in 1966. Being one of the very first buildings on the Fieldhouse Lane estate, the surrounding area was made up of stables and a farm.

The current business park has changed completely with multi-million pound buildings all around, yet Sorb has remained in the centre of the estate in a prime position, close to motorway links, such as the M40, M4 and the M25.

Sorb's policy has always been to invest in the latest technology and in 1982 purchased a 'CNC' punch press when most local sheet metal companies were still relying on manual presses.

Bert Simpson retired in 1988 and Mike Simpson (Bob's son) joined soon afterwards.

1994 Sorb embraced laser technology with its investment in a £250,000 LVD Helius 1.5kw laser cutting machine. The first such LVD machine in the country. This greatly widened the company's customer base as the laser was able to produce parts faster and of a more complex nature.

1999 saw Mike Simpson appointed as Managing Director.

Such was the demand in 1999 a larger machine was installed in series with the existing one. The new machine was a 2kw laser, able to cut thicker and quicker.

2001 Sorb Engineers changed to ' Sorb Engineers Ltd'

2001 Andy Proniw appointed Production Manager

2007 Laser cutting technology had now taken a leap forward which the company quickly recognised; the two existing machines were changed for a new state of the art Prima 4kw machine with a sheet capacity of 3m x 1.5m, supported by the robotic storage and serving tower this allowed 24/7 production, increased capacity, quality and material storage

2007 David Smart joined as business Development Manager.
